A Clean Sweep
I have got past the middle of January without posting.  Is this an achievement? Everyone else posted a review of their 2011 achievements and their plans and predictions for 2012.  I didn’t.  Why?

Well, I just didn’t know what to write in either of these categories so I kept schtum.  I have been thinking it over and realise that the reason I’m finding it so hard to post is that I want to give good value to  my readers and I felt that to do this in the internet marketing field, I had to appear to know what I was talking about.  Hence the posts in the “101 Listbuilding Tips” and the “10 ways that …” series.  Truth be told – if you didn’t realise it already – those are PLR products that I am “serializing” and putting out as posts.  (Don’t get me wrong, this is a great way to find great content but I was using ONLY PLR and nothing of my own!)   This has made me feel totally disconnected from this, my blog.  But this is about to change.

I’m coming clean.

If you look back through my posts you will see in my post “Up and Running – Finally”, that I came online on May 13th 2010 .  I have been in IT – it feels like – since there was IT. So as the internet developed I knew it could be used to make money but I just couldn’t get a handle on it.  Finally, I signed up to Marketing With You with Alex Jeffreys and learnt the basics of blogs, blogging, traffic and working from home on the internet.  You can see from some of my early posts that I progressed steadily through blog hopping and Joint Venture (JV) Giveaways but then ground to a halt.  I even let my hosting and domain name lapse!

Where did I go?

Through a series of steps (sort of like “6 degrees of separation”) I ended up completely hooked in a program called Kooday. They (the CEO and people already in the program) promised to be “then new search engine – bigger than Google”, offering you to own keywords and then get paid when advertisers paid for their ads to be tied to your keywords. This took up ALL my time for several months – besides working the program I also worked on their help desk, advising and helping others in the program.  Then, one day, pooooof.  It was gone!  No answer from the CEO who had been so available and friendly, no payments arriving in our AlertPay accounts, nada.  Some people did make money – if they started early and got their money out as they went along, some lost a lot and some, me included, lost a little.  This left me drifting in the sea of MLM programs, matrices, downlines and so on.  I joined a few but couldn’t really see a future in it all and got very discouraged.  I met a lot of lovely people all around the world with whom I’m connected on Skype and Facebook – but I wasn’t earning.

When and why did I come back?

September 2011 I attended the World Internet Summit in London.  (To find details of the next World Internet Summit… Click here) The refrain repeated by all the speakers was “get yourself a mentor”, “I got where I am today because of my mentor”, “why re-invent the wheel – get a mentor”.  Each speaker was charismatic , had made tons of money on the internet and was offering an enticing, irresistible package – the main feature of which was mentoring.  My major reservation for all of them was they were, for the most part, from Australia so I wondered how much mentoring I would get from the other side of the world, on a completely different timezone – sometimes even on a different day.

In my post World Internet Summit – The Outcome you will see that I did get myself a mentor – 2 in fact.  One for internet marketing and one for life coaching.

John Thornhill is my Internet Marketing Mentor – with his encouragement and instruction I re-started blogging – uploading all my earlier posts which fortunately I had backed up before I lost my earlier domain name and hosting.   I wrote some posts about random, general topics just to write some posts – completely off topic!  Then I got stuck – trying to be witty, clever, knowledgeable, etc.

So now I’m going to be me.

I’m learning Internet Marketing. I’m producing a product of my own under John’s guidance. I’m trying to build my list.  I plan on writing about my progress.

At the beginning of November (“And the Winner is…”), I won a licence to Camtasia – screen capture, movie making software , so my plan is to record practically everything I do, edit out the boring bits and put the videos here.  What do you think?

That way, you can learn along with me and John can see what I’m up to and offer comments, advice or reproof if I’m off-target!   Having said that, I’m recording posting this post and that will be my first video.

Also, if I’m stuck, I plan to write about it and maybe you will know the answer – or you might know someone who does – and that way I’ll get un-stuck faster than I have in the past.  Are you up for it?

So here’s to another new beginning in blogging!
